Ind vs Pak 2024 T20 Match Highlight-India Defeated Pakistan by 6 Runs

India vs pakistan

India came from behind to defend 119, its lowest score in a T20I that it has defended, to secure their second win of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. On the other hand, after suffering their second consecutive loss, the previous edition’s runners-up, Pakistan, face the humiliating prospect of being eliminated in the first round. The ground at New York’s Nassau County International Stadium was unsuitable for big-hitting once more, putting both sides’ bowlers at the forefront of the low-scoring thriller. Here’s what happened between India and Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024

What caused the difference?

The middle overs session, during which Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah not only kept things close but also landed vital blows, gradually turned the game back in the Indian cricket team’s favor. Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman had begun Pakistan’s march by scoring 16 runs in 19 balls before Pandya got Zaman behind. As in India’s innings, this prompted a significant turnaround in the Pakistani cricket team’s innings, with only 40 runs coming from the last 46 deliveries. Following Pandya’s breakthrough, India’s bowlers all contributed, with Jasprit Bumrah producing a standout effort to earn his second Man of the Match award in as many games, finishing with 3-14.

Powerplay: India takes risks after losing openers

IND: 50/2 (RR: 8.33; 5x4s and 2x6s)

Despite a delayed start owing to rain and a second stoppage after the game began, no overs were lost when play resumed. Virat Kohli opened with a thrilling cover drive against Naseem Shah. The Indian openers had already made their intentions clear with Rohit Sharma’s flip off Shaheen Afridi. However, the surface was still difficult to bat on, with the ball pausing with a touch and then moving. Kohli was out chasing a wide pitch and hitting it to cover point. Rohit’s spectacular flick was also miscued, leaving him with a deep square leg.

Both batters, however, had a streaky performance, with a number of edges away from the fielders and even reaching boundaries. In between, Patel used a smart upper cut and a loft down the ground to keep the runs flowing as India reached fifty during the powerplay.

Middle overs: Amir and Naseem catch India off guard

IND: 47/5 (RR: 5.11; 6x4s and 0x6s)

In the space of eighteen balls, India lost four wickets for eight runs, falling to 97/7 at the end of the fifteenth over. The comeback came quickly and unexpectedly after Rishabh Pant threatened to lead India to a solid total on the challenging surface. Pant blasted three boundaries off Haris Rauf, eventually injecting some impetus into an otherwise shaky innings. Despite reaching the forties, it was evident that this was not a pitch for shot-making. Batter after batter had fallen to catches, with the ball appearing to stop on them. Axar Patel was bowled off a skidder by Naseem Shah.

Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja all succumbed to catches within the circle. The last two came off successive deliveries from Amir, and Naseem added two more to his total as India’s shot selection fell short. It re-established Pakistan’s dominance.

Death overs: India spirals even farther

IND: 22/3 in four overs (RR: 5.50; two fours and zero sixes)

Hardik Pandya, India’s only acknowledged batter in the middle, could not do anything to help the team’s desperate situation. He finished up flicking Haris Rauf into deep square leg, leaving Pakistan cock-a-hoop. India’s tail could not accomplish much on the pitch as Pakistan maintained their zones throughout. Like Naseem, Rauf recovered well in this period and finished with a three-wicket haul.

Powerplay: A cautious start for Pakistan

35/1 PAK (RR: 5.83; 2 x 4s, 1 x 6).

India, wanting desperately to make some early gains while defending a modest mark, was held at bay as Pakistan’s top order respected the conditions by playing cautiously. After a few brilliant shots, Babar Azam left, nicking off against Bumrah, while Rizwan led that attack and maintained a tight defensive. After being handed early lives, Shivam Dube dismissed Rizwan off Bumrah at fine leg, and Siraj failed to make a return catch off Azam. Pakistan was able to remain cautious for a longer period of time as they labored to reach 35 inside the powerplay.

Middle Overs: India keeps Pakistan in check

PAK: 48/3 (RR: 5.33; 4x4s and 1×6)

Rizwan served as an anchor throughout and finished with 31 off 44. It was a knock that saved Pakistan from imploding like India, but it also did not help them score late in the game. The hitters on the other end were willing to take greater chances, as Fakhar Zaman demonstrated when he lofted his second ball for a six. It came shortly after Axar Patel’s LBW of Usman Khan. However, Zaman’s modest spell was cut short as he was caught gloving a pull against Hardik Pandya to the wicketkeeper.  Rohit then turned to his hero Jasprit Bumrah, who delivered a massive blow with the first delivery of his third over. A well-set Rizwan saw a delivery that stayed low and was bowled neck and crop, resulting in a significant twist on the back end.

Death overs: Pakistan loses the plot as India dries up the boundaries

PAK: 30/3 (RR: 6.00; 2x4s and 0x6s)

At a critical stage, Imad Wasim managed only 15 off 23, missing three straight deliveries against Axar Patel’s advantageous left-arm spin. India managed to keep things extremely tight in the final five overs of the innings when boundaries were limited. Iftikhar Ahmed even missed a few of full tosses, getting caught off one as Pakistan’s innings collapsed. The slippery surface didn’t assist their situation, as Pakistan drove themselves into a corner from which they couldn’t escape.

Brief Scores: India 119 in 19 overs (Rishabh Pant 42; Naseem Shah 3-21, Haris Rauf 3-21) beat Pakistan 113/7 in 20 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 31; Jasprit Bumrah 3-14) by 6 runs
