Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history at the Indian Premier League 2025 auction in Dubai. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) acquired the Australian pacer’s services for a stunning price of INR 27 crores.
Two players in the lucrative T20 cricket tournament broke the 20 crore barrier for the first time at the IPL 2024 auction. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) paid 20.50 crore to recruit Australian teammate Pat Cummins before Starc went for the record amount. Before this year’s auction, Sam Curran, an all-around player, was the most expensive player in the Indian Premier League (IPL), costing Punjab Kings (PBKS) INR 18.50 crore for the Englishman.
At the IPL 2025 auction, 332 players from 13 countries were up for bid. Of these, Indians made up 216. Following player retention, releases, and trades, the 10 clubs united in the IPL 2024 auction had a maximum of 77 spots available, including 30 overseas player quotas, adding a lot of flair to the IPL theme music & song.
However, only KKR (23) and RR (22) decided to pursue only part of their quota of 25 players, meaning that 72 players were selected throughout the bidding process. All thirty international player places, however, were filled, leading to excitement in T20 betting circles.
In addition to Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant being the ones who joined the 20 crore club in the IPL auction this time, several other players who commanded premiums of 10 crore or more at the IPL 2025 auction. This will have a huge bearing at the IPL Match Betting activity.
