An overview of IPL 2025 Mega Auctions
The IPL governing council has confirmed that the mega auction for IPL 2025 will take place in 2025. Every three years, the IPL has a Mega Auction to allow teams to change their squad composition.
According to the news, teams will receive a limited amount of retentions, with the remaining players going to the Auction pool. Perhaps each team will be able to use the Match Card to keep the players who match an offer during the auction.
The venue and date for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction have yet to be announced by officials. The last time the major auction took place was in 2022 in a luxury hotel in Bangalore.
IPL Player Retention Policies:
The franchises are given a budget of 100 crore for the IPL auction, with 75% of it going to players, according to the rules.
Salary caps and retention restrictions are important factors in IPL player retention. The BCCI has established some retention procedures for clubs, whereby when they keep players, they pay a price from their budget or compensation to do so; here is the salary distribution of retained players:
- Player 1 Salary: up to 14 crore
- Player 2 Salary: up to 10 crore
- Player 3 Salary: up to 7 crore
- Player 4 Salary: up to 6 crore

So, if the teams retain four players, they lose over half of their cash, so it will be interesting to see which players the teams opt to keep for the next season’s Mega Auction.
Aside from that, releasing a player allows the team to focus on their main strategy and become stronger for the following season.
The most likely release scenario is that RCB will release Faf due to his age and the need to keep new players. Glen Maxwell’s performance in the 2024 IPL could allow RCB to release him from the next season.
Some teams, such as the Rajasthan Royals and KKR, have a large number of good contenders for retention, making the decision difficult.
The performances of these stalwarts can have a huge impact on the t20 betting strategy of gamblers!
